世界中で愛される名曲「ダニー・ボーイ」。もともとはアイルランド民謡だったこの曲は、クラシックのコンサートでもすっかりおなじみです。民謡だったこの曲が楽譜に起こされたのは1855年のこと。いつからクラシックの曲として演奏されるようになったかははっきりしませんが、アイルランド出身の作曲家スタンフォードがその早い例として考えられます。

　彼がふるさとに思いをはせた代表曲のひとつ「アイルランド狂詩曲」。その｢第1番｣の中で「ダニー・ボーイ」を引用したことが、イギリスのクラシックの世界でこの曲が認知されるきっかけになったと言われています。
この作品のメロディや情感に魅了されたクラシックの音楽家は数知れず。指揮者の小林研一郎氏もそのひとりです。ダニーボーイの歌詞は「ロンドンデリーの歌」として知られる旋律に歌詞をつけています。内容は、両親や祖父母が戦地に赴く息子や孫を送り出すという設定で解釈されることも多い。

　この歌詞の内容がメロディーに何ともピッタリと当てはまるようで、何度聴いても、うるうる🥹きてしまいます。
